Zimbabwe to explore overseas market for small enterprises

The Zimbabwean government will start to open small and medium enterprises selling missions in neighboring countries and abroad from August this year, a senior official said on Saturday.

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Sithembiso Nyoni said the first mission would be opened in Zambia followed by Tanzania, Angola and Malawi, where a potential for a respectable market share had been identified.

"Findings of the market research carried out in June proved that there is abundant business opportunities in these countries," she said when attending a SMEs exhibition at the Harare Polytechnic College where a total of 44 registered SMEs exhibited their wares.

The selling missions will promote SMEs to become world class business players, she said.

Lack of capital and failure to market products were the major constraints of SMEs in Zimbabwe. The phenomenal growth of the SMEs sector in the past six years provided employment to millions of people as the country was passing through one of its difficult phases.
