Mexico's Pemex oil earnings up 46 percent in first half of 2006

Mexico's state energy company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) said in a Sunday report that its export earnings were about 18.4 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of this year, around 46 percent higher than the same period a year earlier.

The company said it had exported a total of around 1.9 million barrels a day (bpd) of Maya, Isthmus and Olmec crude -- its three export types, up 4.1 million bpd per day from the same period of 2005.

The heavy Maya type accounted for 83 percent of the total, earning the company about 14.7 billion dollars. The light Isthmus oil brought in 918 million dollars, and the extra-light Olmec oil 2.7 billion dollars.

The average price of Mexican oil was 53.17 dollars per barrel during the period, up 15.1 dollars from the same period in 2005.

Eighty-nine percent of Mexico oil exports go to to other nations in the Americas, 9.3 percent to Europe and 1.7 percent to Asia.
