font size

It has been learnt from media that ADM has already completed the agreement on purchasing ATI with a possible procurement price of US$ 5.5 billion. With the confirmation of the news, over two months of publicizing has made progress. If the final agreement is achieved, this purchase will bring along dramatic influence to the industries of chips and processors.

AMD is the worlds second largest manufacturer of chips and processors. With the advantage in the quality and price of its products, it has seized a large quantity of market shares from Intel. While ATI is the largest manufacturer of image processing chips, as well as one of major providers of main board chipsets, supporting greatly ADM and Intel in processor making. If AMD and ATI are merged together, a new powerful provider of processors, image processing chips, and main board chipsets will emerge, which will also greatly challenge the leading status of Intel and NVIDIA.

After the purchase, the image chips market pattern will be renewed. At present Intel enjoys the most shares in this regard, while NVIDIA, the old competitor of ATI, is the major cooperator of AMD. Mr. Huang Renxun, founder and president of NVIDIA said in a press interview that if AMD succeed in purchasing ATI, NVIDIA would readjust the current strategy, and no longer put their working priority to AMD but lay some part on Intel.

Relevant resources revealed that if everything goes well, AMD and ATI will announce their acquisition at the earliest date of July 24th.
