font size

The World Food Program of United Nations (WFP) announced recently that soon after stopping receiving food aid from the United Nations, China has became the world's third largest food donator since 2005, preceded only by the United States and the EU.

WFP added that according to the statistics made by International Food Aid Information System, the food aid in 2005 has increased by 10 percent, with a total quantity reaching 8.2 million tons. Amongst the total, the aid from China accounts for more than half, totaling 577,000 tons, growth of 260 percent over the previous year, of which the majority is utilized in aiding the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The other is offered to over ten nations such as Liberia, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Sri Lanka etc.
