U.S. confirms attendance at 2010 Shanghai World Expo

A senior U.S. trade official on Wednesday confirmed the United States will participate in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Franklin Lavin said the Shanghai Expo will be an important showcase for China.

Lavin, who is in China from July 25 to 31 as guest of the Ministry of Commerce, invited the Shanghai municipal government and the World Expo organizing institutes to visit the United States, and to boost promotion of the expo.

Lavin said the United States would discuss preparations for the expo in order to help its success.

A total of 55 countries and international organizations have officially confirmed their attendance at the Shanghai Expo.

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will be held from May 1 to Oct. 31, 2010, and is expected to draw 70 million visitors. Some 200countries and international organizations will be invited to participate.
