Over the year 2005 the all-caliber electronic and information industry in South China's Guangdong province achieved a gross output value of more than one trillion yuan, 33.27 percent of the nation's total. Electronic information industry has become the first industry with an output value above a trillion Yuan in Guangdong.

At present among the nation's top 100 electronic & information enterprises and top 100 software enterprises, 23 electronic & information enterprises and 14 software enterprises are located in Guangdong. Four major dominant manufacturing industries of communication equipment, household video fixtures, computers and electronic components have been formed. Furthermore in Guangdong one national industrialization base for integrated circuit design, two national electronic and information industry bases, three national electronic and information gardens, two national software industry bases and one software export base have been established.
