Intel to trim staff in ChinaIntel promoted its Core2Duo in Shanghai Century Park, including the desktop Conroe and laptop processor Merom on Thursday. General Manager of Intel China Region Yang Xu disclosed the Intel's staff reduction plan would soon start in China. He cited "Core2Duo" as a major renovation evolved in the technology in the processor's makeup for Intel. They presented Core Duo last year, which still belongs to the old Pentium makeup; whereas the naissance of Core2Duo this time indicates that the global PC has really entered a new era of microprocessing. Yang underscored that the two types of processor and Montecito presented recently in Shanghai are all of 64bit. "In fact Intel has possesses the 64bit technology for a long period of time, precisely for the sake of avoiding any damage done to our clients for the absence of software support." However a marketing dealer of AMD in Beijing noted that the above statement was a deliberate distortion of facts. AMD has presented 64bit products from 2003 when the opponent (Intel) kept claiming that 64bit products would not be of any use, but they had no way out but to follow suit today, he added. Nearly 20 OEM makers as Legend, Acer, Haier, TCL and Great Wall released the desktops of "Conroe" simultaneously, but the laptops based on Merom has so far not been available. Huan Yuping, who is in charge of Intel's public relations on the mobile computer business, said that laptops under "Core2Duo" are set to enter market at the end of next month. Reporters are, nevertheless, more interested in the sequels of the AMD's purchase of ATI and Intel's rallying moves. It was said Thursday that Intel might launch a vicious purchase of ATI at a price of 23 US dollars per share so as to stop AMD from purchasing ATI. Yang Xu confirmed, "Intel need not at all buy any other firm as it has already been the biggest provider of the image chip processors, while ATI ranks the second and NVIDIA the third." The market dealer of AMD acknowledged that AMD would become an enterprise with its own support platform after buying over ATI. However, they would insist on opening itself outwardly and working in cooperation with other companies to explore the market jointly. Yang added that they have already adhered to the road of opening up and cooperation for more than 20 years. By People's Daily Online |
