60,000 cars recalled in first half, official

During the first half of this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) altogether accepted 21-time active recalling applications from17 auto makers both at home and abroad, involving 25 vehicles types and a total number of 62,073 automobiles, revealed Ge Zhirong, Deputy Director of AQSIQ at a press conference by the State Council Information Office Thursday.

Pu Changcheng, another Deputy Director of AQSIQ, briefed on conditions of China's food production and processing sector. According to relevant standards and the food-manufacturing situation, he said, food falls into 525 items under 28 categories. Market accession system has been applied to 370 items under 15 categories by now, and will be imposed on the remaining ones before the end of this year.

It has been learnt that when raising the market threshold to ensure food safety, quality testing authorities also conducted a thorough examination among food additive manufacturers. "By the end of June, the investigation had already covered the majority of qualified small foodstuff makers and workshops across the whole country."

Besides, data offered by AQSIQ on Thursday showed 108 serious accidents incurred by special equipments during the first six months, claiming 115 lives and resulting in 196 injuries.
