A 15-year-old boy was killed while three others were wounded after suspected left-wing rebels attacked the residence of a pro-military group in Batangas 100 kilometers south of Manila Saturday night, said the military on Sunday.

Philippine air force spokesman Maj. Agustin dela Pena said the New People's Army (NPA) rebels opened fire at a house of Bantay Bayan, a group which has been very supportive of military campaign against the NPA.

Dela Pena said the military has been doing a good job against the insurgents in Batangas due to the help being provided by the Bantay Bayan and the local government.

Police said some 10 suspected NPA guerrillas fired at an air force community quarter which also served as base of the local civilian home security volunteers in San Juan, Batangas.

The NPA is a 7,000-strong guerrilla force engaging government forces for 37 years in the countryside.

More than 100 government troops were killed in first half of this year in clashes with the NPA, said the military.
