Kenya's former president admitted to hospital after accident
font size

Kenya's former president Daniel arap Moi was admitted to hospital on Saturday night hours after he had been discharged after treatment for shock following a road accident, local media reported Sunday.

According to the reports, Moi's vehicle was involved in an accident on the Nakuru highway and he rushed to a Nairobi hospital complaining of chest pains.

He was put through what an aide described as "routine checks" and allowed to go home, only to be rushed back three hours later.

His press secretary Lee Njiru said Moi was admitted for "further and more thorough checks".

After Moi's admission, Kenyan Police Commissioner Hussein Ali said doctors would review Moi's condition on Sunday morning and give the public an update. "We should not read too much into this," he said.

Moi, 82, was Kenyan president from 1978 to 2002.
