Hakainde Hichilema, leader of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) urged Zambians not to vote for recycled politicians in the elections scheduled for September 28, Times of Zambia reported on Monday.
He was quoted as saying that Zambians should be wary of recycled politicians who are bent on remaining in the government even when their terms have expired.
Some politicians are still power hungry and have opted to mislead people by saying that they will give them heaven if elected, Hichilema said.
He said that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will give Zambians a new constitution through a constituent assembly. Zambians deserve a better constitution and electoral laws, as well as clean water and good living conditions, he added.
Hichilema urged the media to stop the claims of tribalism, saying it was dangerous for the country as evidenced by the Rwandan genocide.
The UPND has formed an alliance with the United National Independence Party (UNIP) and the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) to avoid the splitting of votes in the upcoming race.
FDD spokesperson Charles Banda said the process of selecting the UDA president was going well.
