Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski and his Norwegian counterpart Jens Stoltenberg confirmed on Monday that Norway was willing to export gas to Poland, the Polish Government Information Center said.

In a telephone conversation with Kaczynski, Stoltenberg expressed his country's readiness for gas delivery to Poland.

In May, Norwegian company Gassco ASA agreed that Poland took part in the construction of a new gas pipeline from Norway to Sweden, which the Polish government said would like to extend to the Polish Baltic coast.

The planned move is part of Poland's efforts to diversify the source of gas supply.

In June, then Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz declared that the negotiations on Norwegian gas deliveries to Poland could be finalized by the end of this year.

The Polish prime minister also thanked Stoltenberg for the aid granted to Poland as part of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.

The mechanism is designed to eliminate social and economic gaps in the European Union (EU) and support new EU members.
