Malaysia's biggest infrastructure group, Gamuda Bhd, has won a major bridge contract in Bahrain, local media reported Wednesday.
Gamuda beat nine international companies in an open tender to secure the contract of 640 million ringgit (172.97 million U.S. dollars), which is to build a three-kilometer-long causeway in Bahrain.
Bahrain's Ministry of Public Works and Housing on Monday informed Gamuda of the offer, Gamuda said in a statement to Malaysia Stock Exchange.
The work, expected to begin by the end of this year, involves building two concrete marine bridges and associated embankment works together with flyovers at both ends of the causeway and on Nabih Saleh Island.
Last year, the company and its partner WCT Engineering Bhd won two contracts, a highway and an airport, in Qatar, worth 2.7 billion ringgit (729.72 million U.S. dollars) collectively.
