font size

Pakistan Wednesday rejected a report by the official Indian news agency Press Trust of India ( PTI) that Pakistan would oppose extension of South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) benefits to Afghanistan.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam in a statement issued here said, "The PTI report was part of disinformation campaign," adding that Pakistan had not opposed the extension of SAFTA benefits to Afghanistan.

She said, "Pakistan fully supports Afghanistan's integration into the SAARC."

The spokesperson said that at the 13th SAARC Summit held in Dhaka in November 2005, Pakistan had proposed Afghanistan's membership of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
