Malaysia's exports continue to grow in June

Malaysia's exports continued its upward momentum in June, reaching 49.61 billion ringgit (13.4 billion U.S. dollars), the Department of Statistics said Friday.

Exports in June grew by 11.4 percent on a year-on-year basis and expanded by 2.8 percent on a month-on-month basis, the department said in its latest release.

It is the second highest monthly exports recorded for the first six months of the year 2006.

Imports amounted to 40.99 billion ringgit (11.07 billion U.S. dollars), registering an increase of 11.4 percent, compared with the same month of 2005, and a growth of 1.9 percent, compared with the previous month.

Trade surplus in June widened to 8.61 billion ringgit (2.32 billion U.S. dollars), up 11.3 percent on a year-on-year basis, making it the 104th consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997, said the department.
