    Tens of thousands call for peace at A-bomb anniversary

A memorial service marking the anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing in World War II was held on August 6 in the city of Hiroshima, with tens of thousands of people from around the world gathering to pray for peace. The atomic bomb detonated over Hiroshima at an altitude of some 600 meters 61 years ago, killing an estimated 140,000 people by the end of 1945.

    Rescuing sinking container cargo ship

    Rescue workers conduct rescue operation in the sinking container cargo ship "Hanlun" near Dachandao Island in Shenzhen of south China's Guangdong Province on Aug. 5, 2006. The ship, which set off from Guangzhou, capital of Guandong Province, sank in the sea near Dachandao Island, with 8 crew rescued and 43 containers blocking the main channel at the mouth of Pearl River. The accident is under investigation.
