One of Zambia's telecommunication operators has finished feasibility studies on the laying of an underground optic fiber network which will enhance telecom service of the country, the Sunday Times of Zambia reported on Sunday.
Charles Kachikoti, public relations manager of Zamtel, was quoted as saying that the network would open the second international gateway for Zambia.
"Once the laying down of the optic fiber is completed, Zambia will open the second international gateway and the Mwembeshi earth station will only be used as a backup," Kachikoti said.
Kachikoti said tender procedures have started to determine who would win the contract and carry out the project.
He added that his company had upgraded its broadband and technology being used and would adequately meet future technological challenges.
