A senior Chinese military leader on Monday pledged to further expand China-Chile military exchanges and cooperation.

Xu Caihou, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when meeting with Jorge Huerta Dunsmore, chief of staff of the national defense of Chile.

"The military relations between the two countries have kept a sound momentum of development," Xu told Huerta, who arrived in Beijing Saturday on an official visit to China.

China will make joint efforts with Chile to push forward the military exchanges between the two countries, said Xu.

Xu also expressed his appreciation for Chile's adherence to one-China policy.

Huerta said the Chilean armed forces is willing to continue to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese army in various fields.

On Monday afternoon, Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Liang Guanglie held talks with Huerta, agreeing on closer military exchanges.
