Tanzanian airline signs aircraft purchase accord

Tanzania's leading airline, Precision Air, signed on Monday an aircraft purchase agreement with a French manufacturer.

The 97-million-U.S.-dollar accord will help enlarge the Tanzanian airline's fleet from its current six aircraft to 12.

The French manufacturer ATR will provide, starting from 2008, Precision Air with three new ATR 42-500 and three new ATR 72-500 passenger aircraft.

The Precision Air, jointly owned by the Kenya Airways and a Tanzanian businessman, now operates flights to 10 destinations within Tanzania, to Nairobi and Mombassa in Kenya, to Pemba in Mozambique and to Lilongwe and Blantyre in Malawi.

The airline is the fifth in Africa to issue e-tickets, after Kenya Airways, South African Airways, Air Namibia and Air Seychelles.
