Afghanistan rebuilds Bamyan Buddha statues

A program to collect relics of the Buddha statues, with a fund of 1.6 million US dollars offered by the UNESCO, is carried out so that the Buddha rebuilding project can be initiated as early as possible after it gets Afghan parliament's approval. The two statues, which used to be the world's tallest in a standing style, were destroyed by Taliban extremists in March 2001.
