The U.S. dollar was trapped in a tight range at the lower 115 yen level Tuesday in Tokyo as investors refrained from making bold moves ahead of a U.S. Federal Reserve monetary policy decision later in the day.

At 5 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 115.08-10 yen, compared with its 5 p.m. Monday quotes of 115.09-19 yen in New York and 114. 58-61 yen in Tokyo.

It moved between 114.96 yen and 115.28 yen in the day, most frequently at 115.10 yen.

The euro traded at 1.2840-2842 dollars and 147.77-81 yen, against its 5 p.m. quotes the previous day of 1.2837-2847 dollars and 147.78-88 yen in New York and 1.2878-2881 dollars and 147.58- 62 yen in Tokyo.
