China to give "physical examinations" to lakes

The Chinese lake ecosystem is now in serious situation, with lakes in East China heavily polluted and lakes in West China greatly losing water, said an official of the Ministry of Water Resources of China (MWR) recently, during "Symposium on Lake Conservation and Sustainable Development of Qinghai Lake". The official added that MWR and Chinese Academy of Sciences are working hard on "Lake Health Indicator" and after this system is accomplished, China will give comprehensive "physical examinations" to all Chinese lakes based on it.

Besides, according to Xu Xinyi, an inspector with Department of Water Resources Management of MWR, MWR together with other Chinese departments is taking relevant measures to protect the health of the lakes. Chinese authorities will soon issue "Development Planning for Water-saving Society" prepared collaboratively by MWR and the National Development and Reform Commission. Other than that, construction of water right is well under way.
