Car sales down in Poland

The Poles bought 138,752 new passenger cars between January and July in 2006, down 6.9 percent compared with the same period in 2005, according to Polish Samar Market Research Firm.

July sales of passenger cars stood at 18,991, down 9.5 percent from June. Market leaders were Toyota, Skoda and Fiat.

However, sales of utility vans reached 21,219 in the first seven months of 2006, up 10 percent than the same period in 2005.

Sales of new vans were 3,064 in July, down 11.3 percent from June, with the market leaders as Fiat, Renault and VW.
