The Indonesian government will lodge protest against a border incident in which an Indonesian fisherman was killed and two others wounded by gunshots allegedly fired by Papua New Guinean officers, a spokesman said Thursday.
"We summon the Papua New Guinean ambassador to send our protest today. We alleged the excessive use of power by the Papua New Guinean security officers," Foreign Affairs Ministry's spokesman Desra Percaya said at the ministry compound here.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when an Indonesian fishing ship carrying 10 fishermen was raided for alleged trespassing.
Local media reports said the PNG security officers fired at the ship and captured the crews.
