China's special envoy urges for political solution to Lebanon crisis

Visiting China's special envoy on the Middle East Sun Bigan on Wednesday urged Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah to end hostilities immediately and achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Sun made the remarks when discussing the current Middle East regional situation with Husni Abu Gheida, Jordan's deputy Foreign Minister and Minister of Public Works and Housing.

Sun said China hopes that the two sides involved in the conflict to cease fire and seek a political framework for a long- term solution to the conflict to avoid further disaster.

China will intensify consultation and coordination with Arab nations, including Jordan, in a bid to help ease tensions in the region, Sun added.

The Chinese envoy, who arrived in Amman earlier on Wednesday from Damascus, Syria, will also head to Israel, the Palestinian territories, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Israel has launched massive assaults against Lebanese Hezbollah since July 12 when two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and eight others killed by the Shiite group in cross-border attack.
