NATO soldier killed, 6 others injured in traffic accidents in Afghanistan

Two vehicle accidents killed one NATO soldier and wounded six others in Afghanistan, the military said Thursday.

One soldier of the NATO-led International Assistance Security Force (ISAF) was killed in a vehicle accident in Kabul on Wednesday afternoon, capital of Afghanistan, ISAF said in a press release.

No other civilian or military casualties occurred, it said, adding an investigation was underway and insurgent involvement was ruled out.

The soldier's nationality hasn't been released.

In another case, six ISAF soldiers were injured on Wednesday when their armored vehicle collided with a cargo truck in the southern Kandahar province, ISAF said in another press release.

The accident happened on a highway, about 30 km south of Kandahar city, the provincial capital, at around 7:45 am.

The six soldiers were evacuated to the multinational hospital at Kandahar Airfield for medical assessment and treatment.

ISAF said the soldiers' nationality wouldn't be released in accordance with ISAF policy.

Around 80 foreign troops have been killed in this war-weary country this year. Most of them died in hostile fire, while some lost their lives in accidents like vehicle collision.
