Nepal's parliament members (MPs) have pressed the government to present the amended Military Act before the House of Representatives (HoR) in order to sever all existing ties between the king and the Nepal Army (NA).
Speaking at the Special Hour of the HoR on Friday, the MPs argued that the Royal Palace Military Secretariat was still active and they asked the government to withdraw all NA serving at the secretariat.
"The amended Military Act will help clear the suspicions that still cloud the NA ranks," said Nepali Congress General Secretary and MP Ram Chandra Poudel, who asked the government to table the amended Military Act at the earliest.
Poudel added that "a new chapter of cooperation and not compromises" should emerge in the nation's politics if a healthy competition between the guerrillas and the rest of the political parties were to exist.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was also present at the HoR meeting.
