The Australian stock exchange market closed slightly lower Friday as the benchmark S&P/ASX200 lost 4 points to 4,949.2, while the all ordinaries dumped 4.2 points to 4,918.
National market turnover was 999.67 million shares worth 3.65 billion Australian dollars (2.80 billion U.S. dollars), with 478 stocks rising, 532 falling and 322 unchanged.
Among the four big banks, Commonwealth Bank shed 4 cents to 45. 75 dollars, ANZ weakened 2 cents to 26.38 dollars, National Australia Bank softened 18 cents to 36.20 dollars and Westpac slumped 13 cents to 22.54 dollars.
Big miners closed lower with BHP Billiton slipping 12 cents to 26.95 dollars, while Rio Tinto reversing 63 cents to 72.65 dollars.
In the media sector, News Corp sold off 17 cents to 25.56 dollars.
Telecommunications giant Telstra backtracked 4 cents to 3.76 dollars.
