The value of total receipts for Hong Kong's restaurant sector stood at 14.9 billion HK dollars (1.91 billion U.S. dollars) in the second quarter this year, up 11.1 percent from the same quarter in 2005.
Over the same period, the value of restaurants' total purchases grew 9.2 percent, to 5 billion HK dollars (641 million U.S. dollars), according to a government press release on Friday.
Releasing the provisional figures on Friday, the Census & Statistics Department said total restaurant receipts rose 9.7 percent in volume in the second quarter as compared to a year earlier after discounting the effect of price changes.
Analyzed by restaurant type, Chinese restaurants' total receipts grew 11.9 percent in value or 10.2 percent in volume, while total receipts of non-Chinese restaurants grew 12.7 percent in value or 12 percent in volume.
The second quarter also saw fast-food shops' total receipts rise 9 percent in value or 7.3 percent in volume.
On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, the volume of total restaurant receipts in the second quarter this year rose 3.1 percent.
