Nepali gov't calls for economic boom after political crisis gets solved
font size

Nepali Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat has said that an economic revolution must be launched after the political crisis is solved, The Himalayan Times newspaper reported on Sunday.

The newspaper was quoting Mahat as saying that the political crisis afflicting the nation will be solved within a year as the guerrillas and the government have already reached important agreements.

The guerrillas "have accepted the rule of law and they and the government have reached a consensus on most points of the political agenda," Mahat said.

Stating that the country's economy suffered due to the political crisis, Mahat said lasting peace will end Nepal's dependence on other countries.

Saying that the guerrillas should end the war, Mahat said, " Nepal can take a great leap economically once the cease-fire becomes permanent."
