Chinese mechanical and electronic products to be supplied to UN
font size

In a bidding contest recently held by the United Nations (UN), a Chinese company, Tellhow Sci-Tech Co., Ltd won a contract to deliver diesel generating sets worth 201 million yuan to UN peace-keeping forces. It is the only Chinese company to win a bid in the contest. A permanent representative of China in the UN commented that this was the first time that China had been given the chance to supply mechanical and electronic products to the UN in large quantities.

It is believed that the UN spent US$7 billion on products around the world in 2005 alone. Although UN has a large demand for generating sets, it has not considered purchasing Chinese products before. It has extremely rigid rules regarding technical reviews and qualification accreditation in order to select high-quality products. As a result, all the UN's earlier generating sets came from developed countries in Europe with advanced technologies.
