font size

China is ready to work with the international community to strive for the implementing of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, said Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan in Beijing on Tuesday.

Zeng made the remark in a meeting with Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Millennium Development Goals Jeffrey D. Sachs.

Zeng said China is ready to work with the international community, especially the United Nations, to keep close contacts and strengthen cooperation, in a bid to jointly implement the Millennium Development Goals.

He said that in order to realize the Millennium Development Goals, the international community has done a lot and made some achievements.

The Chinese government has actively carried out the five measures proposed by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the summit last year marking the 60th anniversary of the United Nations, he said, adding China also hopes the international community will in earnest implement the achievements made during the summit.

Zeng said China wishes international community will establish an equal, reasonable and effective evaluation framework for the Millennium Development Goals and supervise and promote the implementation of international cooperation and development aid commitments.

The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern, such as the current macro-economic situation, work of the aid-the-poor program and renewable energy.
