Nearly 600 S. Korean investors to visit Zimbabwe

Nearly 600 investors from South Korea have confirmed their visit to Zimbabwe this year to explore various investment opportunities, an indication of the continued fruition of the country's Look East policy, a senior official said on Thursday.

The visit is reciprocal to one undertaken by Zimbabwean central bank in May this year, under the auspices of the National Economic Development Program, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Gideon Gono said.

"It is against the background that Zimbabwe is geared for the promotion of trade relations with the Republic of Korea," he said.

"Following our visit to the Asian country in May, we have over 594 confirmed investors from South Korea between now and November, " the governor said.

Objectives of his visit to South Korea were to promote foreign investment and trade as a continuation of current efforts to mobilize foreign exchange as mandated by Zimbabwe's National Security Task Force of foreign currency mobilization, he said.

The mission also sought to market investment projects across all sectors of the economy to potential investors and draw some lessons form South Korea's industrialization and national strategies.

In recent months, there has been a steady flow of investors from the Far East seeking investment opportunities in the country as part of global expansion initiatives, Gono said.
