A coalition solider was killed and another injured in the eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan, coalition forces said in a press release on Friday.
Some extremists attacked a coalition patrol west of Asadabad area in the province on Thursday, killing one soldier and wounding another, it said.
Coalition troops pounded extremist positions with direct and joint fires, it said, adding no enemy casualties were confirmed.
The wounded soldier was evacuated to a nearby coalition treatment facility, where he remains in stable condition.
The killed soldier's nationality is yet to be announced.
Many U.S. troops have been deployed in Kunar and other eastern provinces to hunt down Taliban and other anti-government militants.
More than 80 foreign soldiers, mostly Americans, have been killed in this volatile country this year.
Afghanistan is suffering from a rise of Taliban-linked violence over the past eight months, during which more than 1,800 people, most of whom are Taliban insurgents, have been killed.
