Four foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan
font size

Three coalition soldiers were killed in the eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan on Saturday, and one ISAF soldier lost his life in the southern Uruzgan province, military spokesmen told Xinhua.

Three coalition troops were killed in a clash in Tech district of Kunar in the morning, Chris Miller, a spokesman for the U.S.- led coalition forces said.

The soldiers' nationality was yet to be announced, said Miller, adding no more details were available at the time.

Militants attacked a convoy of ISAF and Afghan soldiers in Charchino district of Uruzgan on Saturday, killing an ISAF troop and injuring an Afghan soldier, said Maj. Quentin Innis, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Both Kunar and Uruzgan have been a hotbed of Taliban and other anti-government militants, who attack foreign troops there frequently.

After ISAF took command in southern Afghanistan from coalition forces on July 31, coalition troops are mainly deployed in eastern Afghanistan to hunt down militants there.

Afghanistan is suffering from a rise of Taliban-linked violence this year, during which over 1,800 people, mostly Taliban insurgents, have been killed.

Meanwhile, more than 80 foreign troops, most of whom are Americans, have lost their lives in this volatile central Asian country this year.
