Nepali House committee condemns gov't for hiking petroleum products' prices

Nepali parliamentary committee for foreign relation and human rights Sunday asked the government to withdraw its decision to hike the prices of petroleum products immediately.

Condemning the government decision, the committee, in a letter to the concerned ministry, asked the government not to go against people's demand and aspirations.

On Friday, as per the decision of the government, the state- owned petroleum supplier Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) hiked the wholesale prices of all major petroleum products by over 11 to 39 percent.

After the decision, Nepali people staged a massive protest throughout the country against the hike in petroleum products' prices in the second consecutive day on Sunday.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Sunday said that some adjustment in the prices of the petroleum products will be carried out.
