Hong Kong Police have opened the new Marine Outer Waters District Headquarters and Marine North Division Operational Base Complex in Ma Liu Shui of the New Territories, according to a Police press release on Monday.
Opening the facility on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) Gordon Fung said it will help Police meet demand from Hong Kong's expanding trade with neighboring ports and booming maritime transport and logistics industries.
"To keep abreast of the times, the Police force must, in its development strategy, upgrade aspects of its infrastructure in various areas and renew its existing hardware when necessary."
The location had been used as a ferry pier until it was converted into a makeshift base 14 years ago.
The Outer Waters District Headquarters and all associated personnel are now housed under one roof with the Marine North Division, enhancing internal communication and administrative efficiency.
