China is worried about the deteriorating security situation in Iraq, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said on Tuesday.

"We are deeply worried about the lasting turbulence in Iraq. We hope the situation there will stabilize as soon as possible and the Iraqi people can soon live in peace and harmony," Liu said.

He also warned Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Iraq.
