China, Grenada value relations since resuming diplomatic ties in 2005
font size

The Chinese government will continue to push forward Sino-Grenadian friendship and cooperation, said Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu Tuesday in Beijing.

At a meeting with Grenadian Deputy Prime Minister Gregory Bowen, who started an official visit to China Monday as guest of the Chinese government, Hui and Bowen spoke positively of the smooth development of bilateral friendship and cooperation since the countries resumed diplomatic ties in January 2005.

Grenada is a Caribbean country that first established diplomatic relations with China in October 1985. China decided to suspend its ties with Grenada in August 1989 when the latter gave recognition to the Taiwan authorities.

During Tuesday's meeting, Hui said China and Grenada are both developing countries sharing a common development agenda, and the Chinese government will promote bilateral relations according to principles of mutual respect, equality, reciprocity, close cooperation and common development.

Hui voiced his appreciation for the Grenadian government's adherence to the one-China policy.

Bowen spoke highly of China's support for Grenada and reiterated that the Grenadian government will continue to abide by the one-China policy.

He said the Grenadian government will also continue to treasure and develop bilateral friendly ties.
