CPPCC leader meets with Taiwan trade delegation

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with a trade delegation from the Taiwan Federation of Industries (TFI) Tuesday in Beijing.

Jia welcomed the delegation headed by Chen Wu-hsiung and hoped the federation would continue to contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

As the world economy speeds up and competition intensifies, compatriots in the mainland and Taiwan more than ever need to work together, expand exchanges and support each other, he said.

The mainland will facilitate any move that benefits the interests of Taiwanese people, cross-Strait exchanges and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, he said.

The trade delegation's seven-day trip to China began in Beijing on Monday afternoon. The delegation will also visit east China's Jiangsu Province and Shanghai.

The federation consists of 142 industrial associations that have nearly 90,000 manufacturing businesses in Taiwan.
