U.S. Army orders review of military deaths since 2001

Criticized for failing to give accurate account of war casualties, the U.S. Army ordered on Thursday a review of U.S. military deaths in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere since 2001.

The re-examination will not only take a second look on hundreds of casualties in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but also will includes U.S. soldiers killed in neighboring countries in support of the two wars, the Army said in a statement.

A Pentagon directive formalizing the review will be issued in a couple of weeks.

The move is responding to multiple mistakes in informing military families of the circumstances of deaths of their loved ones.
