Japan's key Nikkei stock index opened higher Monday, with export-oriented high-tech and automaker issues luring buying following the U.S. dollar's rise to the 117 yen level.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 8.67 points, or 0.05 percent, to 15,947.33.
The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.43 points, or 0.09 percent, to 1,618.38. The Second Section also fell.
