China's top legislator arrives in Porto, Portugal for stopover

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo arrived in Porto, Portugal on Monday afternoon for a two-day stopover on his trip to three South American nations.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, will pay official and goodwill visits to Brazil, Uruguay and Chile from Aug. 28 to Sept. 9.

While in Brazil, he is scheduled to visit the Latin-American Parliament in Sao Paulo.

Wu is expected to meet with local government leaders during his stay in Porto, the second largest city of Portugal.

He will leave this city for Brasilia, capital of Brazil, on Tuesday.
