Nissan plans 50 mln USD new investment in Indonesia
font size

Japanese carmaker Nissan plans a new investment of 50 million U.S. dollars to expand assembly plant and increase dealerships in Indonesia, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

Nissan through its local subsidiary PT Nissan Motor Indonesia ( NMI) has announced a plan to introduce a new multi-purpose vehicle model, the Levina, whose assembling will be based in Indonesia.

The new investment is aimed at increasing production capacity in its plant in Purwakarta, West Java province, from 1,000 units per month to 1,500 units, reported Bisnis Indonesia.

"The MPV Levina to be launched next year is our global product whose production base is in Indonesia," NMI sales and promotion director Teddy Irawan was quoted as saying.

The Levina will spearhead Nissan's struggle to grab a bigger share in MPV market, the biggest market segment in the country, which is currently dominated by Toyota's Kijang and Avanza.
