Visiting top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and Mayor of the Portuguese city of Porto Rui Fernando da Silva Rio on Tuesday hailed the two countries' mutually beneficial cooperation.
Wu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, arrived here on Monday for a stopover during his three-nation visit to Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.
Wu said Porto, an important social and cultural center in Portugal, had been a friendship city for China's Shanghai municipality for more than 11 years and had played an important role in the development of Sino-Portuguese ties.
The top legislator added that cooperation between cities could be an important part of good relations between the countries and urged for more cooperation between Porto and China.
For his part, the mayor of Portugal's second largest city welcomed Wu's arrival and expressed his admiration for the significant achievements China has made in its modernization drive.
China's peaceful development is attracting attention from all over the world, said the mayor.
