China ranks third in worldwide food aidA public notice from the World Food Program (WFP) said China has donated a total of 577,000 tons of food through the WFP, the world's largest humanitarian agency in aid of worldwide hunger since it ended its food aid assistance to China on December 31st 2005. The reason why the WFP ended its food aid assistance (from 1978 to 2005) to China was that the Chinese government had achieved tremendous success in alleviating hunger. "China's food aid assistance has turned a new leaf," said a former official from the Ministry of Agriculture. China is now the world's third largest food aid country following after the U.S. and E.U.
