Montenegro's president, PM meet Chinese state councilor on relations
font size

Montenegro's President Filip Vujanovic and Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic have agreed with visiting Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan to further promote bilateral ties.

During their talks on Tuesday, Tang said China and Montenegro had a tradition of friendship. China quickly established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Montenegro after it declared independence, providing opportunities for the two countries to develop all-around relations.

Tang said China attached high importance to ties with Montenegro and was willing to further step up political trust, mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides and further promote bilateral relations.

Vujanovic, for his part, said that since China and Montenegro forged diplomatic ties on July 6 this year, the traditional friendship between the two countries had further deepened and bilateral ties were developing at a fast pace.

He said that Montenegro attached great importance to its ties with China, and would continue to adhere to the one-China policy.

The Montenegrin president hopes both sides will cooperate in such areas as economy and trade, tourism, shipping, ship building and hydropower generation projects.

Tang, who previously visited Serbia and Macedonia, arrived in Montenegro on Tuesday for a short visit. Montenegro is the third leg of Tang's eight-day official visit, which will also take him to Slovenia, and Croatia.
