font size

On August 30, the Statistics and Census Service of Macao Special Administrative Region revealed that Macao's second quarter expenditure-based GDP rose by as much as 16.3 percent.

Normal gross profits generated by Macao's gambling industry grew 11 percent in the second quarter this year and its gross fixed capital formation, which reflects investment, increased by 54.8 percent -- a number of projects have entered the construction phase in Macao this year. Tourist expenditure (excluding gambling) was up 15.7 percent in real terms due to an increase in the number of tourists and their per capita consumption. Macao's export market grew by 43.7 percent.

Macao's GDP is broken down into private expenditure, which increased 6.5 percent in the second quarter, a little slower than in the first quarter, in which it was 7 percent; and government expenditure, which increased by 5.1 percent, much faster than in the first quarter, when it was 1.1 percent.

The rate of increment for GDP in the first quarter has been revised and changed from 18.8 percent to 19.2 percent.
