Thailand's general inflation rate in August rose 0.1 percent from July and 3.8 percent from the same month last year, which is considered the lowest since June last year, according to the Thai Commerce Ministry.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Karun Kittisataporn was quoted by the Thai News Agency on Friday as saying that it made the average inflation rate in Thailand in the first eight months of this year stay at 5.5 percent.
Under the current circumstance, Karun said he was still confident that the inflation rate in September would be lower than that in August and would stay at a range set by the ministry for the whole year.
He believed the inflation rate for the whole year would average 4.5-5 percent as earlier expected by the Commerce Ministry.
He attributed the declined inflation rate in August to a further decrease in global oil prices, particularly those of gasoline which had continued to fall.
