Northwest Cargo company granted additional frequencies to China

Northwest Cargo (NWA), the cargo division of Northwest Airlines, will expand its all-cargo freight service between the United States and China after being awarded four additional frequencies per week by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

"The additional frequencies expand the airline's cargo capacity to provide shippers with more options to China, which is forecast to be the fastest-growing U.S. trade market," said Jim Friedel, president of NWA Cargo and senior vice president for the Pacific region.

NWA Cargo serves Shanghai and Guangzhou with dedicated all-cargo freight services. Next year, it will expand its Guangzhou service to daily operations, providing same-day service to the United States with a stop in Japan.

Scheduled to begin on March 25, the expanded Guangzhou service brings the total number of U.S.-China all-cargo flights to 14 per week.

Northwest first started a service to China in 1947.
